Concept
“Creating retro eyewear is truly gratifying for me. When I get to design them I always start with a round frame. For this style: ‘Clover’, I wanted to create a smaller round frame to include in our Dolabany Collection and modernize it a bit from the other round retro frames in the collection. The ‘Clover’ design replaces the typical vintage bridge key-hole for a modern smooth bridge. To complement the near perfect round frame, I used circular plates for its hinges.”

Colors
“I love color. However, when re-creating the vintage look I prefer to use colors associated with its style. My favorite color on the ‘Clover’ is Tiger Black, a combination of deep yellow with black. There is so much depth in these colors that it just inspires my senses. I can’t take credit for this color combination as it’s so common in nature. Just go on any safari trip and you’ll have it all around you.

Shape
“One of my favorite true retro styles is the round shape frame. I feel there is so much sophistication behind the shape. It doesn’t require too much color or flashy accessories, just by being round it creates its own statement. I can’t help but notice how round shaped frames have become iconic glasses for some of the most famous people in the world, like Steve Jobs, John Lennon, and don’t forget the Dalai Lama.”

Concept

“Vintage inspired eyewear is such a hot look in the eyewear business. However, too many eyewear designers focus vintage/retro eyewear with acetate materials. So, for ‘Ring’ from Plume Paris Eyewear I wanted to create a unisex stainless steel metal frame without sacrificing the vintage look.”

Colors

“The ‘Ring’ comes in 3 different colors but I wanted one of them to be a colorful contrast, so I chose Olive and Purple. You see, the color Olive is such a beautiful calming color and Purple is just deep and mysterious. I remember passing through Napa Valley, California and just admiring the beautiful grape vines and their color combinations. Plus, I remember taking a vineyard tour where they also grew olive trees. When the tour guide showed me the barrel of olives, I expected to see green but what I saw was a combination of green and purple. The colors were just amazing. The olive and purple combination that I was going for were not just any combination, I wanted it the same way nature had intended it to be, beautiful lilac sunset skies, and deep purple and fresh green flora.”

Shape

“All ‘vintage’ concepts were kept in mind: round lens, round shields, thick bridge, and old-style temple patterns.”

Concept

“The idea behind the ‘Romco’ frame was to create a unisex bold frame that will enhance both casual and professional styles. Its shields and thick bridge were incorporated in its design to give it some vintage flare.”

Colors

“The gradient color goal was mahogany red and grey. The color combination reminded me of the fall season in Central Park, New York. How the autumn foliage can reach a dark red color tone is beyond me. The acetate was carefully chosen to reach a beautiful color combination between a worn type mahogany wood panels and the smoke gradient color of one of my favorite animals, the Gray wolf.”

Shape

“Romco’s shape is a basic block frame. This is my favorite shape when I ‘m focusing on gradient color tones because I can easily transition the colors. Plus, I’m a big fan of big vintage frames.”
